Could Lily be a nickname for Elizabeth?

My sister is pregnant, and wants to name her daughter Lily, but it%26#039;s tradition to give the children in our family, family names somewhere in the name

She want Lily Elizabeth, but I think that they are too close, and if she wanted to, she could name her Elizabeth, and call her Lily. What do you think?

Could Lily be a nickname for Elizabeth?
Its not a nickname for Elizabeth....

There are several nicknames from that name:

Liz

Liza

Lizzie

Beth

As for %26quot;Lily%26quot; name....

Lillian Elizabeth....then she can call her Lily
Reply:If Dick is the nickname for Richard (can anyone explain that one to me?!?), then Lily can be the nickname for Elizabeth.

I think Lily Elizabeth is a wonderful name!
Reply:It is a plain, simple fact that Lily is not short for Elizabeth. The only name Lily can be short for is Lillian, or Lily could be a name by itself. Lily could be shortened to Lil.

Elizabeth is not short for anything. Names short for Elizabeth could be:

Ellie

Elle

Eleanor

Eliza

Liz

Lizzie

Zabbie

Beth

Bethan

Liza

Bethany

Bethanne

Lily-Elizabeth is also an option, but hyphenated names are very hard to live with in this world.

Meshed names are a good idea in your situation.

Try:

Lizabeth

Lilabeth

Lillabeth

Lilibeth

Lilith

Libby

Elily

Elizy

Elzie

Elsie

Elizlily

Elizalily

Elizabelily

Elizabethily

I know some of them sound a bit outrageous, but just some ideas ;)
Reply:Lily isn%26#039;t a nickname for Elizabeth. You are right though in saying that Lily and Elizabeth are too close. Good luck and congrats to your sister!
Reply:It would be ok to name her Elizabeth and then call her Lily. Or your sister could use just Lily as an adaptation of the name Elizabeth, like my family did with some of our names.

My aunt%26#039;s name (Jenny) turned into my daughter%26#039;s name Jenna. My mom and dad%26#039;s names (Joseph and Ann) became my sister%26#039;s name Joan.

My girlfriend%26#039;s daughter is named Marseilles after her grandfather. We have always called her Marcy. And my grand-daughter%26#039;s name is Elizabeth, but we have always called her Libby.

I hope this helps you in some way.
Reply:Lily is a nickname for Elizabeth
Reply:Lily is not a nickname for Elizabeth.

If she wants to name her child Lily Elizabeth that its her choice, not the families.
Reply:Erm sorry but I think the nickname for Elizabeth is actually %26#039;Lizard%26#039;.
Reply:I think she can use whatever nickname she wants. Madonna%26#039;s kid%26#039;s name is Lourdes Maria and her nickname%26#039;s %26quot;Lola%26quot;... It shouldn%26#039;t be a problem.

For me, Lily could be a nickname for Elizabeth.
Reply:Lily Elizabeth...

Cute name...
Reply:I think Lily Elizabeth is a very cute name.
Reply:how about Lillian Beth,Lilly Beth is so cute
Reply:Elizabeth%26#039;s nickname is Lizy...

Lily.. she could call it Lillian Elizabeth? But that sounds a bit crowded..

I think Lily Elizabeth sounds alright.. you dont say the middle name with the first name to often anyways really..
Reply:well lily elizabeth is sooo cute but if u just want elizabeth that is still ok.. the name of the queen

Reply:I like both Lily Elizabeth, and Lily as a nickname for Elizabeth. It isn%26#039;t traditionally a nickname for Elizabeth, as far as I know, but I still think it sounds similar enough to work. It%26#039;s close enough to Libby and Lizzie, which are both nicknames for Elizabeth. I say it%26#039;s fine!
Reply:How about

Lillian Elizabeth, Lily

Lilliana Elizabeth, Lily

Lily-Rose Elizabeth, Lily

She can call her baby lily, and keep Elizabeth
Reply:Lily isn%26#039;t even close for a middle name.

Namer her Elizabeth Lily and call her Lily

I don%26#039;t think Lily Elizabeth isn%26#039;t too close. I think they go together well.
Reply:Yes - it is a nickname for Elizabeth. I have a cousin named Elizabeth and she is called Lily.

It%26#039;s such a beautiful name.
Reply:Lily is not usually a nickname for Elizabeth, and is a name in its own right, and I think it sounds okay as Lily Elizabeth (don%26#039;t forget middle names are hardly used anyway). I did hear though that the Queen of England%26#039;s nickname is Lilibet, so that is kind of similar to Lily! Elizabeth as a first name will probably get shortened to Liz, Lizzy or Beth most likely.

Whatever she chooses it is lovely that your family follows tradition and honours the names of family members like that, more people should do that instead of giving their kids weird fad names that have no meaning.

All the best to your sister.
Reply:I have a daughter named Elizabeth

I personally love that name.

If her name is Elizabeth then Lily would be a great name to call her.
Reply:Lily elizabeth is very cute! My middle name is elizabeth, lily can be a nick name for Elizabeth along with Eliza, liz, beth, liza etc...goosd luck
Reply:I like Lily Elizabeth and I like Lily as nickname- I hate boring nicknames like Liz, Lizzy...

Jeenie Amber

Jeenie Ray

Jennie Kristnia

Jennie Lee

Jennie Erin

Jennie Shelby

those are my favs
Reply:The only connection I can really see between the names Lily and Elizabeth is that Queen Elizabeth II of England was called %26#039;Lilibet%26#039; as a child. Lily isn%26#039;t really a nickname for Elizabeth... and I think the name Lily Elizabeth is quite pretty, although the sound takes some getting used to (so many l%26#039;s!). The sound of the name is actually really melodious, now that I think about it.

I don%26#039;t think that your sister should name her child Elizabeth and call her Lily. It would just be waaayyy too confusing. Besides, if you%26#039;re going to call your child something their whole life- that may as well be their name. (Except in the case that you give the child an established nickname for a more formal name. But I%26#039;m just not going to go there ;P).

I do like your creativity and concern about your future nieces name.. But it is a really lovely, strong name that your sister chosen. Best of luck to all of you!
Reply:how about lilian elizabeth and nickname her lily?
